Sean Strickland neutralized the “American Khamzat” in the UFC Houston main event earlier this year in Texas, and will now try to replicate that performance when he battles the Real McCoy atop the UFC 328 fight card on May 9 at the Prudential Center in Newark.

Fat chance, according to longtime welterweight contender and RAF wrestler Colby Covington.

“I’m not giving him a chance,” Covington told Submission Radio. “Hernandez and Khamzat are completely different levels of grapplers and the way they approach their strategies. So, I think Khamzat’s going to take him down and submit him. ‘Schmo’ went and watched them spar back at Xtreme Couture a couple of years ago, and he pretty much said it wasn’t competitive.”

Covington is referring to media personality “The Schmo” who frequently interviews fighters.

“Khamzat was just taking him down and submitting him, so I expect that same damn plan,” Covington continued. “He’s not going to be stupid and strike with Sean and make it a kickboxing fight. He’s just going to make it straight grappling, and I think he’s going to put Strickland in some really bad positions and either submit him or just hold him down for 25 minutes.”

That’s how Chimaev (15-0) won the 185-pound strap in the first place.

Strickland (30-7) is no stranger to the middleweight strap, having captured the crown from Israel Adesanya before coughing it up to Dricus Du Plessis. Whoever prevails at UFC 328 is likely to defend against top contender Nassourdine Imavov, unless the 31 year-old “Sniper” gets booked before then.

Speaking of snipers, beware of sore losers!
